Ballet teacher offers free dance session in fundraising effort for Ukraine

A ballet teacher who has worked as a professional dancer for over 10 years is offering a free dance session in the hope of raising money for Ukraine relief.

Kate Byrne, from London, has danced with the English National Ballet and Ballet Zurich and recently launched her own company My Ballet Coach, which offers on demand training for adults.

After discovering that International Day of Dance was coming up, Kate wanted to tie the festivities of the day with providing support for Ukraine.

The dancer decided that she wanted to unite the dance community and channel her skills as a teacher into raising money for Ukraine after seeing the challenges the conflict has had on dancers from the Ukraine National Ballet.

“There can be such a strong sense of community among dancers and I really hope our shared love of ballet can generate support for those affected by the war,” Kate told Oh My Goodness.

Kate said she chose Disasters Emergency Committee as they are an umbrella agency for multiple different charities that specialise in humanitarian aid but added that “donations can be made to other charities and there are many other fantastic charities out there.”

Kate stressed that experience is not needed for her class as it will be suitable for all abilities, but that you will need a clear space, a chair, internet connection and comfortable clothes that you can move around in.

Kate decided she wanted to celebrate International Day of Dance by doing something good.

If you are interested in following Kate’s class on Zoom, send her an email at kate@myballetcoach.com, or tune in to her Instagram livestream at @myballetcoach between 18:30-19:30 BST.

Donations can be made on Kate’s JustGiving page with all proceeds going to Ukraine relief efforts.
